Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Toronto FC announced Thursday that it has
acquired defender Gale Agbossoumonde through a weighted lottery conducted at
The Canadian side was one of six teams to participate in Thursday's lottery,
coming in with a 57.3% chance of landing the highly-touted defender. Also
entering the lottery process were FC Dallas (25.9%), the Houston Dynamo
(9.5%), Seattle Sounders FC (5%), Los Angeles (1.9%) and San Jose (0.04%).
"We're thrilled to have Gale Agbossoumonde join Toronto FC," said TFC
President and General Manager, Kevin Payne. "He's a young and immensely
talented center-back with solid international experience at the U-17 and U-20
level for the United States, and we hope he will be a member of our team for
years to come."
Agbossoumonde was named the U.S. Soccer Young Male Athlete of the Year in 2010
has been a staple for the America's U-17 and U-20 national teams.
On the club side, the 21-year-old was handed his professional debut in 2009 by
Miami FC of the USL, making nine appearances during the season. He has enjoyed
loan spells across Europe with Sporting Braga, Estoril Praia, Djurgarden and
Eintracht Frankfurt II before settling with Carolina Railhawks of the NASL.
