Flowery Branch, GA -- The Atlanta Falcons today announced that they have hired Joe Danna as defensive backs coach and have promoted Glenn Thomas to quarterbacks coach and Andrew Weidinger to offensive assistant.

"I really like the make-up and chemistry that our new coaching staff brings to the table," said Falcons head coach Mike Smith.  "I am certain that these men will all work together to objectively bring about a fresh set of offensive and defensive concepts and schemes that will make us a more competitive and consistent football team as we prepare ourselves for the 2012 NFL season."

Danna served as an assistant defensive backs coach with the Miami Dolphins for the last two seasons where he worked under Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. In 2010, the Dolphins secondary ranked eighth in the NFL against the pass. Prior to joining the Dolphins, Danna spent two seasons in Atlanta as a defensive assistant (2008-09).

Thomas served as an offensive assistant for the past four seasons. During his tenure in Atlanta the Falcons offense has seen its best production over a four-year span in franchise history. Prior to joining the Falcons in 2008, Thomas spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX.

Weidinger spent the last four seasons as assistant to the head coach/offense, providing administrative help to Falcons Head Coach Mike Smith and assisting with managing data, research, daily practice scripts, schedules, calendars and assisting with the running backs. He joined the Falcons in 2007 as a personnel scout.
