(WXIA) -- Josh Smith is staying in Atlanta. This was always a possibility. NBC Sports said that GM Danny Ferry wants cap space and flexibility and if he couldn't get that with a trade he could just let Smith and his $13 million come off the books at the end of the season. That's what he's doing.

A three-way deal with the Milwaukee Bucks and Orlando Magic that would have sent Smith ultimately to Milwaukee fell apart with only minutes to go before the 3 p.m. deadline.

In the meantime, NBC Sports said the Hawks traded Anthony Morrow to Dallas for Dahntay Jones.
