ATLANTA -- A pair of brothers officially joined forces in Atlanta Tuesday afternoon.

The Braves introduced new outfielder Justin Upton, acquired in a trade with Arizona last week, at a news conference at 3 pm. They acquired his brother, B.J. Upton, in free agency this past November.

They have been brothers for 25 years and teammates for zero.

"Never," said mother Yvonne Upton when asked when they last played together. "They never played together."

As teens, they suited up for rival high schools; they even played briefly on a travel team, although both parents say Justin was mostly tagging along. In the majors, they wound up on different teams - Justin in Arizona and B.J. in Tampa Bay. But they always hoped to play together.

The Braves, of course, had their own needs - namely, power in the outfield. So they signed B.J. and last week traded for Justin.

"The outfield's gonna be together for a number of years," said general manager Frank Wren, "and I think quite frankly we'll be one of the youngest teams in all of baseball, and we'll be expected to contend."
