MACON, Ga. -- For the second time this season, Kennesaw State women's basketball freshman guard Chelsea Mason has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference's Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Mason helped lead the Owls to a 51-50 win over Jacksonville State this past week, scoring 13 points and grabbing six rebounds in 17 minutes played. During a highly-contested rivalry game at Georgia State, Mason was good for nine points and an assists while earning 26 minutes of playing time for head coach Nitra Perry.
"It's a great honor for her," said Perry of the accomplishment. "For her to get it not once, but twice, just says a lot about the type of player she is. She's in the gym everyday working hard to improve her game and not only is she an offense threat, but she's turning into a defensive stopper as well."
For the week, the Bellevue, Neb., native averaged 11 points, the second highest for the Owls, with a field goal percentage of .400 and a pair of made three-pointers. On the boards, Mason collected a total of eight rebounds while dishing out one assists and picking up a steal.
Mason, along with the rest of the Owls, will be back on the floor Dec. 13, when the team takes to UNC-Asheville.
