ATHENS, Ga. -- The 14th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs conducted a two-hour workout in full pads Wednesday.

It was the second of only three practices scheduled this week because the Bulldogs (5-1, 3-1 SEC) have an open date Saturday. The team's final workout of the week will be on Thursday.

After Wednesday's practice, Bulldog coach Mark Richt said the team had a fun day in full pads.

"We treated it like spring football, we've got a lot to get better at, and we wanted to go live and tackle," said Richt. "You take a risk when you do that in mid-season, but we're not competing this Saturday so we scrimmaged a bit today. It was great competition, and I think the guys enjoyed it.

"We'll get the game plan in and start perfecting it on Monday so we can have a good performance against Kentucky," Richt added.

Georgia returns to action at Kentucky on Oct. 20. The game will serve as UK's annual Homecoming, and the Wildcats will honor recent Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee and UK football legend Dermontti Dawson. A center for the Wildcatsfrom 1984-87, Dawson enjoyed a 13-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers including six All-Pro selections.

The Wildcats (1-5, 0-3 SEC) face Arkansas (2-4, 1-2 SEC) in Fayetteville this Saturday. The Georgia-Kentucky game will begin at 7 p.m. and be televised by ESPN2, ESPNU or FSN. The exact network carrying the game will be announced next week.
