Hammond, LA (Sports Network) - First-year Southeastern Louisiana football coach Ron Roberts has beefed up his team's secondary with the transfer of defensive back Ronnie Vinson from LSU.

Vinson is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound safety who switched to cornerback during LSU's spring practices. The New Orleans resident is seeking more playing time in making the drop from the FBS to FCS level.

He played in a seven games as a redshirt freshman last season, mostly on special teams, and made two tackles. He was granted a redshirt in 2010 after suffering an injury three games into his true freshman season.

As a senior at Newman High in 2009, Vinson was rated as the No. 4 prospect in Louisiana and the No. 13 athlete in the nation by Rivals.com.

Southeastern Louisiana finished 3-8 overall and 1-6 in the Southland Conference last season.
