Santa Barbara, CA (Sports Network) - Alan Williams put up a double-double
consisting of 19 points and 14 rebounds as the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos
captured a 56-46 win over the UC Riverside Highlanders in Big West Conference
play at the Thunderdome.
Williams, who shot just 5-of-14 from the floor for the Gauchos (11-19, 7-11),
added five blocked shots for the team as they closed out the regular season
with a third straight win and is now locked in to the seventh seed for the Big
West Conference Tournament which gets underway on Thursday. Kyle Boswell
added 12 points off the bench.
The Highlanders (6-25, 3-15), who finished all alone at the bottom of the
league standings, were led by Chris Harriel with 18 points, on 7-of-22
shooting, followed by Austin Quick with 15 points and seven boards.
Both teams shot only about 35 percent from the field in the first half and
despite making only half of their chances at the free-throw line through the
first 20 minutes of action, UCR was able to take a 24-21 edge at the break.
Unfortunately, in the second half the visitors made good on just 25 percent of
their field goal chances, allowing UCSB to capture the double-digit win at
