Fort Collins, CO (Sports Network) - Colton Iverson finished with 21 points and
nine rebounds to lead the Colorado State Rams over the Nevada Wolf Pack,
77-66, in a Mountain West Conference tilt at Moby Arena.
For the Rams (24-7, 11-5 MWC), Wes Eikmeier added 20 points, Greg Smith
chipped in with 11 points and Pierce Hornung posted a double-double with 16
points and 13 rebounds. As the No. 2 seed, Colorado State will meet the No. 7
seed Fresno State on Wednesday afternoon in the MWC Tournament.
Deonte Burton scored a game-high 27 points to pace the Wolf Pack (12-18,
3-13), while Malik Story finished with 14 points and Marqueze Coleman tallied
12 points. Nevada finishes as the No. 9 seed and takes on No. 8 Wyoming
in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday evening.
Colorado State connected on 57.1 percent from the field in the first half, as
they took a 39-21 lead into halftime. Nevada shot just 40 percent from the
field and missed all but one of nine 3-point tries in the half.
In the second half the Wolf Pack got hot, making 66.7 percent of their field
goal attempts and 2-of-5 from beyond the 3-point arc. The Rams struggled,
shooting just 31 percent from the field and only 1-of-8 from 3-point range.
After trailing by 20 midway through the period, the Pack used a 13-2 run to
get back into the contest, but they got no closer than seven as the
Rams held on for the victory.
The Rams outscored the Wolf Pack at the free-throw line, 24-15, and finished
with a 31-26 rebounding advantage.
