ATLANTA -- The No. 7 seeded Panthers of Clark Atlanta University was eliminated from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) basketball tournament with an 84-77 first round loss to the No. 2 seeded Tigers of Stillman College Tuesday.
Stillman led for much of the first period, before Jarrel Joye led the Panthers to their first lead of the half at the 3:30 mark, 31-29. The Tigers reclaimed the lead after an 11-5 run to take a 40-36 lead into halftime.
The Tigers (19-5) led by as many as eight points in the second half behind the play of Justin Harris, who scored 10 of his game-high 17 points in the period. With a slim two-point lead at the 3:00 mark, Stillman went on an 11-6 run and pulled away despite a frantic surge by the Panthers down the stretch. The Tigers outrebounded Clark Atlanta 47-32 on the boards with 24 offensive rebounds. Jarrel Joye led the Panthers with a team-high 16 points followed by Dwayne Bingham (15), Glyndelle Poole (16) and Kevin James and Johnnel Young with 11 each.
CAU ends the season with eight consecutive losses and a 4-23 overall record.
