Poughkeepsie, NY (Sports Network) - Jonathon Thompson went 9-of-11 from the
field en route to 23 points to lift the Rider Broncs to a 64-58 victory over
the Marist Red Foxes in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tilt at McCann
Daniel Stewart contributed 12 points and seven boards for Rider (12-12, 7-5
MAAC) as it snapped a three-game losing streak. Junior Fortunat provided a
spark off the bench with 10 points and six boards while Anthony Myles tallied
seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
For Marist (5-18, 2-10), Chavaughn Lewis poured in a game-high 24 points,
swiped five steals, and dished out five assists. Adam Kemp posted 12 points,
seven rebounds, and three blocks in the Red Foxes' fourth consecutive setback.
Rider connected on 44.4 percent of its field goal attempts and outrebounded
the hosts, 19-15, in the opening 20 minutes. The Red Foxes managed to overcome
a 10-point deficit and tie the score just before the intermission by forcing
eight turnovers in the first half.
The Broncs scored 12 points off of turnovers, knocked down four 3-point
attempts, and went 6-of-6 at the charity stripe after the break to take back
control. Marist went 3-of-11 from distance and 5-of-12 at the charity stripe
in the second stanza.
Rider enjoyed a 37-24 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored Marist,
17-8, in second chance points.
