Fullerton, CA (Sports Network) - Vander Joaquim registered a double-double
with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds as the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors held
on to defeat the Cal State Fullerton Titans, 77-75, in Big West Conference
action at Titan Gym.
Christian Standhardinger accounted for a team-best 18 points, adding eight
rebounds, while Hauns Brereton and Isaac Fotu produced 13 points apiece and
Brandon Spearman 11 for the Rainbow Warriors (13-9, 7-4 Big West) as they won
their third straight road bout.
The Titans (11-11, 4-6) were paced by Kwame Vaughn who tallied a game-high 19
points, but still the team bowed for the third time in as many games and the
fifth in the last six outings. D.J. Seeley posted 18 points, eight boards and
five assists, followed by Sammy Yeager with 17 points before fouling out.
Fullerton was perfect at the free-throw line in the first half and shot 43.2
percent from the floor as it posted a 39-35 lead at the break.
In the second half Hawaii connected on half of its shots from the floor in
order to move ahead and eventually grab the slim two-point win.
The Rainbow Warriors outscored the hosts by a 19-11 margin at the free-throw
line which was just enough for Hawaii to overcome a mere four offensive
rebounds on the night.
