Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Bryce Cotton put up 23 points and nine rebounds
as the Providence Friars outlasted the Seton Hall Pirates, 67-55, in a Big
East Conference bout at the Prudential Center.
Cotton shot 8-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, for
Providence (9-7, 1-3 Big East), which snapped a five-game losing streak.
LaDontae Henton tallied a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards, Vincent
Council recorded 11 points and eight assists, and Kadeem Batts also scored
For Seton Hall (12-5, 1-3), Fuquan Edwin tallied 17 points and seven rebounds,
while Haralds Karlis and Aaron Cosby netted 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Neither team shot greater than 39 percent from the floor in the first half,
but Providence was able to take a comfortable 38-22 halftime lead by shooting
9-of-13 from the foul line and 3-of-8 from 3-point range. Seton Hall made just
one trey in the opening frame and was only 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.
The Pirates outshot the Friars in the second half, 48 percent to 33.3 percent,
but they never got within eight points of the lead.
Providence forced 17 Seton Hall turnovers, which it converted into 20 points.
