Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - Rod Rucker exploded for 22 points as the UAB
Blazers defeated the ULM Warhawks, 76-69, in non-conference action at Bartow
Rucker was 9-of-15 from the floor and pulled down nine rebounds as the Blazers
(6-6) earned their second win in three games. Also scoring in double figures
for the hosts were Preston Purifoy (12 points, eight rebounds), Robert
Williams (12 points, seven rebounds), Terence Jones (11 points, six assists),
and Jordan Swing (11 points, three steals).
ULM (1-7) was led by Trent Mackey with 17 points, knocking down five 3-
pointers, as the Warhawks lost their third game in a row. Kyle Koszuta added
15 points off the bench while Marcelis Hansberry scored 11 points. Although
Jayon James recorded six turnovers, he also pulled down 11 rebounds and dished
out eight assists.
UAB led 37-31 at halftime despite shooting 39.4 percent from the field. The
hosts did outscore ULM at the free-throw line in the frame, 7-2.
In the second half the Blazers outscored ULM 39-38 with six second-chance
points while keeping the Warhawks from scoring on any such opportunities.
The visitors turned the ball over 19 times, leading to 16 points for the
Blazers, and were also outscored at the charity stripe, 16-5.
