El Paso, TX (Sports Network) - Julian Washburn scored 23 points as the Texas-
El Paso Miners outlasted the Oregon Ducks in triple overtime, 91-84, in a non-
conference tilt at the Don Haskins Center.
Washburn was joined in double figures by Cedrick Lang, who scored 14 points on
5-of-7 from the field, as well as a trio of UTEP (4-5) reserves. John Bohannon
tallied a double-double with 21 points and 10 boards before fouling out while
Jacques Streeter and Konner Tucker each netted 12 points. Streeter also dished
out a game-high eight assists.
Damyean Dotson scored a team-high 20 points for the Ducks (9-2), who defeated
UTEP last season in the only prior meeting between the two schools. Carlos
Emory helped out with 18 points off the bench. Dominic Artis scored 15 points
and had six assists but made just 6-of-23 shots from the floor. Arsalan Kazemi
recorded a 13-point, 16-rebound double-double while E.J. Singler grabbed 10
boards. Tony Woods chipped in 10 points.
UTEP led 33-26 at halftime after shooting 42.3 percent from the floor and
allowing Oregon to knock down just 2-of-12 attempts from the perimeter.
The Minors led by as many as nine points in the second half but allowed the
Ducks to fight their way back. With seven seconds remaining, Artis converted a
layup to give Oregon a one-point advantage. Bohannon was fouled moments later
and made one free throw, sending the game to overtime.
The first overtime period ended in similar fashion to regulation except it was
Woods who had the chance to be a hero. He made just one of two free throws to
even the score and Washburn got a look at a three-pointer but missed at the
The Ducks led by four during the second overtime but baskets by Bohannon and
Washburn forced yet another extra session.
Finally, UTEP emerged and scored an impressive 16 points in the third
overtime period thanks to a perfect 6-of-6 performance from the foul line.
The Ducks lost despite winning the rebounding battle, 49-44.
