Villanova, PA (Sports Network) - JayVaughn Pinkston scored 19 points, leading
four players in double figures, as the Villanova Wildcats delivered a 75-65
win over the Delaware Blue Hens in a non-conference meeting at the Pavilion.
Also scoring in double digits for the Wildcats (7-4), as they won their third
straight and the fourth in the last five outings, were James Bell with 14
points, Daniel Ochefu 11 and Darrun Hilliard 10 points.
Leading the way for the Blue Hens (3-8) were Devon Saddler and Jarvis Threatt
with 19 and 15 points, respectively, as the team suffered a second straight
defeat and the seventh in the last eight outings overall. Jamelle Hagins
accounted for 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals for the visitors,
while Kyle Anderson chipped in 10 points as well.
In the first half the teams experienced five ties and just as many lead
changes, but thanks to a late layup by Pinkston the Wildcats moved out to a
32-28 advantage at the break. Delaware trailed at intermission despite
shooting 52.2 percent from the floor.
The Blue Hens made only nine total field goals in the second half, connecting
on just 2-of-8 beyond the arc, which allowed Villanova to put together a
couple of small scoring runs to pull away for the 10-point win.
The Wildcats controlled the glass with a 43-27 rebounding edge, with 20 of
those boards coming at the offensive end of the floor.
