East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Anthony Winbush tallied 16 points and
eight rebounds, helping lift the Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds to a 61-55 win
over the Saint Peter's Peacocks in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at
the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Dylon Cormier added 15 points and Franz Rassman scored 13 for the Greyhounds
(8-3, 1-1 MAAC).
Desi Washington netted a game-high 18 points while Darius Conley scored a
dozen for the Peacocks (4-5, 1-1), who suffered their third consecutive loss.
Loyola started the game hot, as the Greyhounds shot 52.4 percent from the
floor in the first half to grab a 29-22 halftime lead.
Saint Peter's scored the first 13 points of the second half, and a 3-pointer
by Washington gave the Peacocks a 38-31 lead with 15:03 to play. However,
Loyola answered with a 12-0 run to regain the lead, 43-38 with 9:58 remaining.
A jumper by Washington pulled the Peacocks to within three points with 1:02 to
play, but Loyola staved off the threat with free throws down the stretch.
The game featured six ties and 10 lead changes, but Loyola did a better job
cleaning up the boards and held a 37-27 rebounding advantage for the game.
Saint Peter's struggles at the foul line also contributed to the outcome, as
the Peacocks made good on only 13-of-22 free throws (.591).
