NCAA Game Summary - Massachusetts at Northeastern

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Chaz Williams and Jesse Morgan each finished with 18 points to lead the Massachusetts Minutemen to a 72-66 victory over the Northeastern Huskies, in an interstate dustup at Matthews Arena.

For the Minutemen (4-3), Sampson Carter added 14 points.

Reggie Spencer led the Huskies (4-4) with 15 points, Quincy Ford posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Demetrius Pollard scored 12 points and Joel Smith chipped in with 10 points.

UMass shot 44.0 percent from the field in the first half, as they took a slim, 30-29 lead into the break. Northeastern was held to 37.0 percent shooting, including just 2-of-11 from three-point range.

In the second half, the Minutemen picked up the pace, connecting on 50.0 percent of their field goal attempts, including 5-of-11 from beyond the 3-point arc. The Huskies continued to have problems making shots, hitting on only 34.1 percent from the field and missing all but one of their 16 3-point attempts. Even so, the Huskies held a three-point lead, 62-59, with just over three minutes to play in regulation. The Minutemen responded with a 13-4 run to close the game and escape with the victory.

The Huskies outscored the Minutemen in the paint, 36-24. Northeastern finished the game just 3-of-27 from 3-point range.
