Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- Three Lady Panthers scored in double digits to help Clark Atlanta University down Florida Institute of Technology 83-69 on the final day of the Nova Southeastern Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Sunday.
After seven lead changes and the game knotted at 21 with five minutes remaining, Clark Atlanta went on a 19-4 run to close out of the half with 40-25 advantage led by Shavon Caldwell and Erika Sumpter who each poured in eight points in the period.
CAU led by as many as 19 points in the second half before the Florida Tech Panthers pulled within seven points at the 4:12 mark down the stretch. But the Lady Panthers held on for the win as they split two games in the classic over the weekend.
Point guard Conisha Hicks led Clark Atlanta with 18 points on 7-of-13 from the field and 50 percent (3-of-6) shooting from behind the arc followed by Caldwell's 15 and Denissea Law's 10. Sumpter topped all players with 12 rebounds that helped CAU to a 54 to 38 advantage on the boards including 17 on the offensive glass. Tech's Jasmire Brown led all scorers with 21 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Next, the Lady Panthers (2-1) will host Georgia College and State University at HOME Tuesday, November 20, at 6 p.m., with the men's basketball team immediately following at 8 p.m.
