LOS ANGELES - The son of entertainment mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs accepted a football scholarship from UCLA that critics say should go to a more needy student.
Eighteen-year-old Justin Dior Combs, the namesake of Justin's restaurant on Peachtree Rd. in Buckhead, says he earned the award and deserves all $54,000, which would go toward his education.
But, since Combs father topped a Forbes list of hip hop's wealthiest this year with a net worth estimated at $550 million, some are questioning whether the money might not be better spent elsewhere.
Justin Combs took to Twitter earlier this week to respond, tweeting "Regardless what the circumstances are, I put that work in!!!! PERIOD."
UCLA said in a statement that the sports scholarship is awarded based on athletic ability, and it's paid for with money generated by the athletic program, not by taxpayers.
In 2010, Sean Combs reportedly gave Justin a Maybach car worth about $360,000.
Sports anchor Fred Kalil and Jeff Hullinger took on the debate in Friday's 11pm newscast. What do you think? Click on the "Comment" link below to weigh-in.
