KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- Sophomore Jimmy Beck (Columbus, Ga. / Columbus HS) posted a 3-under par 68 to record his third straight sub-par round en route to claiming individual medalist honors at the Irish Creek Collegiate that concluded Sunday at the par-71, 7,099-yard The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C.

Beck carded rounds of 67-70-68 for an 8-under par 205 to register a one shot victory over Charlotte's Franco Castro who finished at 7-under 204.

The Owls sophomore's effort helped Kennesaw State move up two spots in the standings and finish tied with Charlotte for third place with a 14-over par 866, seven shots behind team champion North Carolina. The Tar Heels concluded the 54-hole event with a 7-over par 859 to record a two-shot victory over North Carolina State (861).

"Overall it was a fairly solid team performance for us," head coach Jay Moseley said. "Jimmy sparked us and had an incredible performance from tee to green and was able to convert his opportunities when he had birdie chances."

During his 54 holes, Beck recorded 14 birdies, 34 pars and just six bogies.

"It was a really good feeling to win the tournament and I was fortunate to make some birdies and limit my mistakes," Beck said. "It's a perfect time for us to be playing well as a team and we are ready to win a tournament. Hopefully, we'll put together a good postseason."

The tournament victory marked the second of the season for Beck, who captured the individual title at the Pinetree Intercollegiate last October.

Junior Austin Vick (Evans, Ga. / Greenbrier HS) and sophomore Jonathan Klotz (Columbus, Ga. / Columbus HS) tied for 32nd with 8-over par totals of 221. Senior Peder Lunde Hermansson (Gothenburg, Sweden / Katrine lundsgymnasiet) tied for 35th with a 9-over score of 222, while senior Ben Greene (Duluth, Ga. / Peachtree Ridge HS) tied for 56th with a 225 total.

Kennesaw State is off until April 21 when it opens play at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships at the Chateau Elan Golf Club in Braselton, Ga.
