AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Behind the solid play of sophomore Ines Lescudier (Marseille, France / Tulane), the Kennesaw State women's golf team turned in its best round of the tournament to move up one place and finish 16th at the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate that concluded Sunday at the par-72, 6,214-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
The Owls posted a final-round 20-over par 308 to conclude the 54-hole event at 95-over par 959. Sixteenth-ranked Purdue rallied from a three-shot deficit to overtake 36-hole leader No. 9 Purdue and post a one-shot victory over the Commodores.
The Boilermakers carded a final-round 2-over 290 to finish at 12-over par 876, while Vanderbilt registered a 6-over par 294 and finished at 877. Notre Dame (888) placed third and was followed by Texas (899) and host Augusta State (906), which rounded out the top five.
Lescudier, who entered Sunday tied for 42nd, finished strong by posting four birdies in her final nine holes to conclude the day with a 3-under par 69 and the tournament at 10-over par 226 and tied for 22nd.
Ashley Armstrong of Notre Dame turned in a 2-under par 70 to claim individual medalist honors with a 1-under par 215 and a two-shot victory over Purdue's Paula Reto (217). Vanderbilt's Jenny Hahn and second-round leader Natalie Wille tied for third with 2-over par totals of 216.
Sophomore Kaew Preamchuen (Chachoengsao, Thailand / Datdaruni School) finished 68th with a 241 total, while senior Ket Preamchuen (Chachoengsao, Thailand / Benchamaratrungsarit 2 School) tied for 73rd, senior Molly Winnett (Gardendale, Ala. / Gardendale HS) tied for 93rd and freshman Brittany Jarrett (Tift, Ga. / Tift County HS) finished 95th.
Kennesaw State is next in action when it opens play at the Challenge at Onion Creek scheduled for April 1-2 at the Onion Creek Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas.
