Rio Grande, Puerto Rico -- Ollie Schniederjans shot a career-best 6-under-par 66 Tuesday and earned the highest individual finish of his career, and Georgia Tech closed with a 1-under-par total of 287 and finished in fifth place at the Puerto Rico Classic.

Schniederjans, a sophomore from Powder Springs, Ga., birdied 10 holes in his round Tuesday, the lowest round shot by a Yellow Jacket this year. He completed 54 holes with a 10-under-par total of 206, also a career best, and finished two shots behind NC State's Albin Choi (204, -12), who grabbed medalist honors by carding a 7-under-par 65 Tuesday.

As a unit, however, the 8th-ranked Yellow Jackets were unable to keep up with 6th-ranked Alabama, which shot 14-under-par 274 Tuesday and finished the tournament at 33-under-par 831, seven strokes ahead of Oklahoma (-26), who posted a 7-under-par round Tuesday. No. 20 SMU (-16) finished in third place after a 5-under-par round, and No. 9 Georgia (-12) finished fourth after shooting 6-under-par as a team Tuesday.

Tech (-6) was a distant fifth in the 15-team field, which included eight of the nation's top 50 teams.

"This was a really special round today for Ollie," said Tech head coach Bruce Heppler. "Making 10 birdies was enjoyable to watch, and I'm excited for him because this is his best collegiate finish. As a team, we have a lot to work on over the next couple of weeks before we play again."

Anders Albertson shot s 1-under-par 71 for Tech Tuesday, while Bo Andrews and Richard Werenski each added a 75 to the Yellow Jackets' total. Albertson finished tied for 24th place at even-par 216. Seth Reeves, who began the day in the top 10 individually, shot a 76 and fell back to a tie for 28th at 1-over 217. Werenski (+6) tied for 45th, and Andrews (+7) tied for 47th.

Tech returns to action March 15-17 in the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas, Nev.
