PARIS (AP) -- The United States and Western diplomats have failed to bring Russian and Ukrainian foreign ministers together for face-to-face talks on Ukraine's Crimea region, which has been taken over by Russian forces.
But after an intense round of diplomacy with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and several European counterparts in Paris, Secretary of State John Kerry says the meetings were "very constructive."
Lavrov says the sides have agreed to continue talks in coming days.
EU sanctions target Yanukovych, closest aides
The European Union says the asset freezes it's imposed against 18 people held responsible for embezzling state funds in Ukraine include the country's ousted President Viktor Yanukovych and his son.
The list also includes what appear to be Yanukovych's interior minister, justice minister, the prosecutor general and the head of the security services.
