WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama says there "will be costs" if Russia continues moves toward military intervention in Ukraine.
A spokesperson says at least eight Russian transport planes have landed in Crimea with unknown cargo. The Associated Press says the IL-76 planes arrived unexpectedly on Friday and were given permission to land at the Gvardeiskoye Air Base in Crimea.
The United Nations Security Council were informed by the Ukrainian UN Ambassador Friday that Russian military helicopters and transport planes were entering his country and that Russian armed forces had seized Crimea's main airport.
In a Friday afternoon statement from the White House Briefing Room, President Obama strongly said there was deep concern on the part of the Obama Administration regarding Russian moves in the region.
