ATLANTA -- Atlanta Police and the Buckhead Coalition are working together to solve a slew of armed robberies in the Buckhead area.

There have been at least a dozen armed robberies over a 3-week period, and the Buckhead Coalition is offering a $5,000 reward for information that helps lead to arrests and convictions.

"We want help from the community and part of that help is giving information and that's the reason we've offered this reward," said Buckhead Coalition President Sam Massell.

The victims are often targeted leaving their cars or walking to their apartments and homes.

A man was car jacked in the Terminus roundabout on Feb. 7. On Feb. 10, a woman was robbed at gunpoint in the Lenox Square Mall parking lot. And Feb. 14, a woman was robbed on Canterbury Road.

"It almost seems like a crime of opportunity," Atlanta Police Lt., Rodney Woody pointed out.

Lt. Woody heads up the Criminal Investigation Division in Zone 2 and has put six detectives on the unsolved robberies.

There have been some arrests. On Lakeland Drive, at 1:30 in the morning on Feb. 8, a man was robbed walking to his apartment. According to the police report, three black males hid in the bushes and then put three handguns to his head. They took his BMW car keys, iPhone and wallet.  Three men were arrested after the victim got in a taxi and followed his attackers to a gas station.

"And then a couple nights ago we were able to arrest two more for armed robbery that were juveniles," Lt Woody added.

MARTA Police assisted in that arrest in Lindbergh.

Police believe the culprits are coming from outside Buckhead.

"Because this is where the money is," Massell pointed out.
