ATLANTA -- HERO driver Elanora Redd sees some amazing things on I-285, activity that may explain why there are so many accidents there.

"I've seen a couple of people with their laptops kind of propped up on their laptops doing 70, 80-miles-per-hour," said Redd.

An 11Alive examination of crash data reveals 3,600 accidents last year on I-285 through Dekalb County. That's over a thousand more than the year before. The nine fatalities were two more than the previous year.

In Fulton County, more than 2,000 accidents were a slight increase over the previous year. The six fatalities were double the year before.

The Department of Transportation has already made improvements to some interchanges, like I-285 and Ashford-Dunwoody Road. The group Revive 285 is studying major changes.

The state has also organized a network of tow truck drivers to move disabled big rigs off of the interstates faster.
