Heavy snow snarls traffic in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Major traffic delays were reported in Charlotte, N.C. on Wedneday afternoon as snow fell through the area.

The National Weather Center issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Charlotte Metro area Tuesday morning.

All counties are under a Winter Storm Warning until 6 p.m. Thursday.
Significant icing of 1/4 to 1/2" is already being reported from parts of Charleston, S.C. to Columbia, S.C., Augusta, GA and Atlanta, GA. Travel to these areas will be a very dangerous proposition today and should be postponed. Power outages are becoming more numerous in these regions as well.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools dismissed two hours early on Tuesday ahead of a significant winter storm that will impact a large part of the Carolinas today and Thursday.

WCNC.com reported that there were significant traffic delays on I-277 at Independence. According to reports, people were beginning to get out of their cars after being stuck for long periods.
