TEMPLE, Ga. -- Two children and a man were found dead in a Carroll County home on Thursday, authorities said.
According to Chief Deputy Brian Robinson of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, the bodies were discovered at a home on Willow Lane off Taylors Gin Road in Temple.
Authorities said 41-year-old Luis Garcia shot his two children, 11-year-old Kayla and 13-year-old Daniel, before turning the gun on himself.
Daniel Garcia was found on the living room sofa, while Kayla Garcia was discovered in her bedroom. Luis Garcia's body was found in the master bedroom. Police said the double murder-suicide happened either Tuesday or Wednesday.
Offices received a call around 3 p.m. Thursday from Garcia's employer stating that he hadn't been to work in several days, which they said was unlike him.
"We just came out here to do a concern for welfare," Robinson said. "The doors were locked -- as you can see, the vehicles were in the driveway. We contacted the school about the children. They had not been to school in a couple of days."
Garcia's estranged wife Elizabeth was out of the state at the time. Police said she left home in early January after getting into an argument with her husband, and has been staying with family members in New York.
The Temple community came together on Friday to pay tribute to the two murdered children. A candlelight vigil was held as friends , family and classmates remembered the lives that were tragically cut short.
The couple has an older son who is in the military, according to police.
Investigators said Luis Garcia did not have a felony criminal record, and there were no past reports of domestic violence in the family.
