ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- A strong earthquake has struck the western Greek island of Kefalonia, sending panicked residents into the streets.

Kefalonia's mayor tells Greek radio that the port in the town of Lixouri, the closest to the epicenter, has been damaged and that minor injuries have been reported.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake registered a 6.1-magnitude.

Greek scientists say Monday's tremor appears to be an aftershock to a Jan. 26 quake.
