A witness provided video of the incident to our Houston sister station KHOU. It showed a worker jumping into action and spraying down the blaze with a fire extinguisher as customers ran away.
The store filled with smoke and was evacuated.
No injuries were reported, but the health department was called in to look over food inside the store to see if anything was contaminated.
Store manager Victor Pena wouldn't comment on the incident, only saying the investigation was on-going. The store reopened at 6 a.m. Monday.
The Walmart is Houston's newest and only just opened last Wednesday.
