  • ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga -- A suspect thought to be one of the "pepper spray bandits" has been taken into custody in connection with a string of robberies in two counties.

It took the combined efforts of the Rockdale County Sheriff Office and the Henry County Police Department to identify two suspects who were terrorizing convenience store clerks.

Johnny Jay Collins, 36, of Stockbridge is in custody and charged with two robberies in Henry County.

Police said Cordero Woody, 27, turned himself in, but later determined that he is not one of the suspects they were looking for. Henry County Police said Woody's brother was the actual suspect and that he has a history of using his brother's identity on more than one occasion.

Investigators said Cordero Woody's brother remains at large. They said they are not releasing his identity until he is apprehended.

One of the robberies was at the Marathon gas station on Jodeco Road that happened December 26, 2013. Collins and the second suspect allegedly used an axe to threaten the store clerk. They also punched him in the face when he couldn't open the store safe.

The suspects earned their moniker in three other robberies, one in Henry County and two in Rockdale County, where the two suspects sprayed the clerks they robbed with pepper spray before fleeing the store. In two of those robberies they used a machete as a weapon.
