Firefighters in Lilburn battled a house fire in the 3800 block of Hunting Ridge Drive on Mon., Jan. 6, 2014

LILBURN, Ga. -- Firefighters battled a 2-alarm blaze in southwest Lilburn Monday evening.

The blaze broke out in a home in the 3800 block of Hunting Ridge Drive. Gwinnett County Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said the two-story wood frame house was fully involved when crews arrived.

No injuries were reported, but the house was a total loss. Rutledge said a car and boat parked near the home were also destroyed.

A family of four lived in the house. The father and his two teenage sons were home at the time and managed to escape, but the family's four dogs did not make it out of the burning house.

It took crews more than an hour to get the fire under control. Rutledge said the cause is under investigation. Officials believe it was accidental and started in the basement, and may have been sparked by a space heater.
