The coldest air potentially in decades is heading into the region and will arrive later tonight. As of 4 pm Sunday, the arctic air is pushing into Mississippi and will push into our state by around 11pm tonight. Ahead of the cold front we will showers spread over the area between now and midnight and behind the front we will see some snow flurries around the metro with no accumulations.
As you can see below, the NAM is showing around an inch of snow up in the mountains later tonight, but the main issue for most of the metro area will be from the black ice that will form rapidly tonight. This is due to the intense cold front that will be moving in and drop our temps from 40's at 11pm to around 20 degrees by around 3am....
The temps will be the main part of this story as we will stay in the lower 20's all day tomorrow and single digit lows on Tuesday morning. We are also under a wind chill advisory for tomorrow as we will be seeing wind chills from -5 to -15 across the entire region. We will not get above the freezing mark until Wednesday afternoon.
