Democratic Rep. John Barrow of Georgia
AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) -- The chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs will be traveling to Augusta next week for a briefing at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center on what steps officials have taken to address delays in patient care.
Republican Rep. Jeff Miller of Florida will be leading the congressional oversight trip and will be joined by Democratic Rep. John Barrow of Georgia. In a letter seeking a congressional hearing, Barrow wrote in November that delayed care for veterans has been linked to the deaths of at least three service members at the Augusta facility.
Health care administrators at the Augusta VA said they have brought in extra personnel, leased and purchased additional equipment and reengineered the hospital's floor plan to increase patient flow.
