ATLANTA, Ga. -- The holiday season is upon us and that means many metro-Atlanta residents will be hitting the road, or having to contend with those visiting from out of town. The 11Alive Help Desk wants travelers to arrive safely and on time.
Traveling by car? Good news - the Georgia Department of Transportation will suspend road construction at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20 until 5 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2. However, expect delays near shopping centers and malls.

Headed to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to catch a flight? Be aware of roadway improvement projects that will cause detours and potential delays. The detour affects Airport Boulevard and, according to airport officials, will upgrade the roadway network between Interstate 85 and Camp Creek Parkway north of the airport, and Riverdale Road to the south. Detours are in place, so travelers should plan ahead and pad their trip times.
