LIZELLA, Ga. (AP) -- Middle Georgia fire officials are working to determine the cause of a blaze that destroyed a Hindu worship and community center in Lizella.

Macon-Bibb Fire District Chief Richard Blair said flames were shooting through the building's roof when he arrived Wednesday night. Blair says four people who were inside escaped without injuries.

Fire Chief Marvin Riggins said the building's occupants were in a separate area and were unaware of the fire until someone called to tell them about it.

The worship center occupied the space of a former middle school about 12 miles west of Macon.

Blair says the building can't be salvaged, and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is helping investigate the blaze.
