ATLANTA -- 2014 will be the Year of the Peanut in Georgia, according to the sponsor that will help Atlanta ring in the new year.
Mars Chocolate North America and Underground Atlanta announced Friday that M&M's Peanut is the official sponsor of the 25th annual Peach Drop.
Peach Drop will be held Tuesday, Dec. 31 at Underground Atlanta. A day of family-friendly activities and entertainment will end with Georgia's famous 800 pound illuminated peach falling to symbolize the beginning of a new year.
M&M's Peanut plans to bring a celebrity emcee and special headlining performer to the event.
"Georgia and M&M's share a passion for quality peanuts," Roy Benin, chief consumer officer for Mars Chocolate North America, said in a statement. "In fact, only one in 100 peanuts is lucky enough to find its way into a bag of M&M's Peanut, so we think it's only fitting that we kick off our exciting 2014 campaign in what many people consider the Peanut Capital of the U.S."
