DENVER (AP) -- It's so cold in Minnesota that Salvation Army bell ringers have been working indoors.

Extreme cold generated by a dip in the jet stream grips the northern midsection of the country.

Deep snow is likely in the Rockies and parts of Minnesota, where there have been hundreds of weather-related traffic accidents.

AccuWeather warns an ice storm could also develop in New Mexico and west Texas on Thursday.
