NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Authorities are investigating an early morning accident that killed two motorists in Newton County.
According to Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened around 3:30 a.m. on Interstate 20, eastbound.
Preliminary reports suggest a motorist stopped to help another stranded motorist, who was stopped on the shoulder of the road, at the time of the accident.
While the motorists were assisting each other, 28-year-old Kevin Poynter rear-ended one car and side-swiped the other. A pedestrian pinned between both cars and a passenger were, both, killed in the crash.
Authorities believe alcohol was a factor in this incident. And charges will be filed against Poynter. An investigation is on-going.
