CLARKSTON , Ga. -- Joan Swaney is accused of misuse of funds and is set to appear in court Friday.

For nine years she was office manager at the Clarkson Community Center.

A federal indictment says that for two years, Swaney quietly embezzled $50,000 from the community center she helped run.

It says Swaney forged the signature of the center's director on checks, and deposited the checks into her personal account.

The indictment could end councilwoman Swaney's political career, with the governor appointing a panel to decide on her removal from office.

Her term expires in January.  She's set to appear in court at 10 a.m. Friday.
