DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- A large water main break completely shut down Covington Highway at DeKalb Medical Parkway in Lithonia.
The break happened at around 4:15 a.m. Friday.
Crews managed to shut off the water valve and begin repairs shortly before 8 a.m.
DeKalb County spokesman Burke Brennan said one lane of the road is now open in each direction. Crews estimate they will have the entire road reopened by 4 p.m.
About 500 customers are without water between DeKalb Medical Parkway and Phillips Road as officials work to repair the break.
