2 Students at Etowah High School punished after sex act in cafeteria
WOODSTOCk, Ga. -- Two students at Etowah High School are facing punishment after performing a sex act in the school cafeteria.
Students say a female freshman participated after being "dared."
Cherokee County School officials confirm the incident occurred on Oct. 10. District spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby released this statement to 11Alive News:
Two juvenile Etowah High School students were charged with misdemeanor public indecency for an incident that occurred on Oct. 10. A female student allegedly made a sexual offer to a male classmate during lunch; the male classmate later told administrators that he thought this offer was a joke, but when the female student began to act upon it, the male student said he stopped her. Students sitting at the same table said they blocked other students and staff from witnessing what occurred. Two of those students said they had recorded some of the incident on their cell phones, but deleted the videos when they realized that they might face charges. Appropriate school disciplinary action will occur for all students; the details of that action cannot be disclosed due to student privacy laws.
11Alive's Duffie Dixon requested the district explain how many adults were providing supervision at the time of the incident, where they were stationed and if any procedures will be changed now because of what happened.
"No fewer than 6-8 employees staff the cafeteria during lunch; the staff are not stationed in one area." Jacoby responded by e-mail. "As when any alleged criminal activity takes place on school grounds, the school and District administration will review policies and procedures to determine what changes should be made."
