MONROE, Ga. -- It's been about a month and a half since 16-year-old Jacob Little was hit and killed by a car while riding his skateboard to school.  The Walton County Sheriff's office said he was hit after his skateboard got loose in the road and he jumped in after it.  The driver who first hit him never stopped, and his family has been holding out hope they will come forward.

"They've got to have some kind of conscience, you know?  They know they hit a child," said Jacob's father Randy Little.  "At this point, they know what they hit, so I would like for them to come forward."

As the family waits, so do authorities.  They've impounded a car they think could have been involved.  It has front-end damage and what appears to be blood on the hood, and it was abandoned along Hwy 316.  But they have to wait for DNA results to come in from the GBI crime lab before they can try going after the car's owner.

It's taken over a month, and the results still haven't come in.

"The GBI's backed up, there are only a couple of people that can do DNA testing for them," Maj. Greg Hall of the Walton Sheriff's Office said.  "I'm sure they're swamped, because all the DNA from across the state comes to that same crime lab."

In the meantime, the family is pushing for a skate park to be built in Jacob's honor.  They're collecting names on a petition. More than 600 people have signed on.

"He was loved, and I know he knows that," his older brother Jeremy said.  "But we don't know what to do down here on earth without him."
