SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- A 911 recording reveals that before police shot and killed a south Georgia man inside his home, the man's fiance told a 911 operator he had overturned a refrigerator, broken a TV set and said to family members "he wants to die."

Waycross police released the 911 recording Wednesday that dispatched officers to the home of 45-year-old Jack Lamar Roberson Oct. 4.

A police report says Roberson was fatally shot after threatening officers with a large meat fork and what appeared to be a knife. Roberson's fiance and have said he was unarmed. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating.

Roberson's fiance, Alicia Herron, called 911 asking for an ambulance. She said Roberson took "a couple handfuls of pills" with liquor, but said he wasn't threatening anyone in the home.
