EAST POINT, Ga. -- The Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force has arrested the final suspect in the attempted carjacking and beating of an 80-year-old man.

Authorities located 20-year-old Ricky Wilcoxson on the 3800 block of Flat Shoals Parkway on Monday afternoon. He was taken into custody while attempting to hide from authorities.

Dexter Ware, 21, was arrested Thursday afternoon and Iesha Washington, 22, turned herself in on Thursday evening.

Police made a plea to Wilcoxson to turn himself in peacefully because they believe  he is armed and dangerous. Police said all three suspects were involved in a shootout on Old National Highway after a failed robbery attempt on the same night they allegedly assaulted Creston Portis, 80, of East Point.

That attack took place September 14 as Portis was returning home after visiting friends.

Lt. Chandler said there was an overwhelming response from the community when Mr. Portis' story was aired. "Public pressure did help actually," he said. "The public  was integral in getting him (Ware) into custody and getting these other people (Wilcoxson and Washington) identified."

"I'm just glad that they were caught and I hope they get what they deserve," Portis told 11 Alive's Kevin Rowson. "I feel sorry for their parents, their mother, to think they raised their kids to be better children growing up and they're not."

His story captured a city and a nation because of his story. "I've been out a few times since then and I see people," he said. "Everybody says 'Hey, you were just on TV, weren't you? Man, that was terrible what happened to you, it's a shame'," he said.

Lt. Cliff Chandler said the crime hit the police department hard because the victim's son used to be a police officer with East Point.

"This crime is particularly disconcerting to us at the police department," he said. "We are particularly concerned at the level of violence that was exhibited by these perpetrators."

Police said Portis was approached by two males and one female after they blocked him in his driveway. They were driving a black Mercedes Benz, according to police.

The two men were armed with at least one handgun. They threw a brick through the passenger side window and began striking Portis in the head with the gun.

Portis told 11Alive News he refused to unlock the door.

"He (suspect) had like a .45 (handgun) and he's beating on the window and telling me to 'get out the car, get out the car, get out the car'," he said.

Portis said he heard the female tell the suspects to "leave him alone."

"At one time she said 'come on, let's go, leave him alone'," Portis said. "Then I heard her say 'get his money, see if he's got money'."

Portis said the suspects forcefully ripped his pants and stole his wallet.

The suspects fled the area and Portis said he called 911. He suffered a fractured cheek and cuts above his eye.

Portis asked why they would pick on someone his age.

"What kind of training, home training or life training do they have?," he said. "What kind of character do they have doing something like this?"
