According to Apple's website, sliver and "space grey" versions of the iPhone 5s are available in 7-10 business days, while consumers hoping to snag a gold iPhone 5s will have to wait until October.

Eager consumers around the world braved lines at Apple stores in hopes of securing the new iPhones.

Chris Walker, 44, of Indianapolis was fifth in line at the AT&T store in Avon, Ind., where about 30 people were waiting at 7:50 a.m.

Walker was happy with his old Android phone but his wife and son wanted iPhones. "I'm not a big Apple fan or anything," said Walker, who had been waiting in line since about 3:30 a.m. "But the consensus was it is time for me to get one."

Saul Diaz, 18, an Indianapolis resident, was second in line. He had been there since 10 p.m. Thursday, passing part of that time messing with his iPhone 5.

Diaz said he has had every iPhone that has come out, and always gets a new one on the day they are released. "I guess its just because iPhones are really cool to have," said the University of Indianapolis student.

The iPhone 5s and 5c go on sale Friday in the U.S., U.K., China, France, Germany, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Last year, Apple sold 5 million units of its flagship iPhone 5 during the first weekend of its launch and Apple stores in the U.S. mostly sold out by midday Saturday.
