GWINNETT, Ga. -- Firefighters responded to a house fire Thursday evening at Watson Gate Road in Loganville.

Once on the scene, crews found heavy fire showing from the second floor and attic of a two-story wood frame house on arrival.

The fire appears to have started on the exterior of the home and quickly spread to the attic. The exact cause of the fire is undetermined under investigation. There were two adults and three children inside the home at the time of the fire and escaped unharmed.

They were alerted to the fire after smelling smoke.

The fire was so intense that initial fire crews had to battle the blaze from outside the burning home. First arriving firefighters were met with multiple exposures to surrounding houses as they battled the main blaze. Radiant heat sparked a small fire in the attic of a neighboring home and melted the siding on three others houses nearby. Firefighters used multiple hose lines to spray water to protect neighboring homes.

Three additional engines were called to the scene to assist with fire control. There were a total of 35 firefighters operating at the scene. Fifteen different fire apparatus' and support units responded to the scene.

Two separate families from two separate houses were displaced by the fire damage. The Red Cross was contacted to assist one of the families.

In all, a total of 12, six adults and six children, were displaced from the two houses.
