ATLANTA -- Ads and sales are creeping up earlier and earlier. There's a term for a holiday season that starts this early. It's called the "Christmas Creep."
Kmart debuted the year's first gingerbread-coated commercial just a few weeks after back to school sales ended. It promotes the store's layaway program, enticing shoppers to take advantage of sales now and start paying on those pricey gifts about 100 days before the holiday.
"It's a layaway ad, it really isn't a Christmas ad," explained Brand Fever CEO Vicky Jones. "This is a tasteful layaway ad that reminds consumers about planning ahead."
