Officer injured after chase for robbery suspect

A Douglas County police officer is being treated for injuries after his car was involved in a crash with a potential robbery suspect.

The suspect was wanted for shop lifting or purse snatching at Arbor Mall and led police on a chase down I-20 Eastbound after an attempted stop.

The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a deputy's vehicle which caused the suspect's vehicle to flip on the interstate.

The officer is being treated for minor injuries while the suspect was life lighted to an area hospital.

I-20 Eastbound between Fairburn Road/Exit 37 and Chapel Hill Road/Exit 36 is congested due to the accident.

Traffic congestion extends three miles after the accident location.
Motorists are urged to use alternate routes or allow plenty of extra time to get through this area.
